Postnatal Massage

Covid-19 Clinic Policy

It’s an exciting time to have a new baby in the house.  But it’s also exhausting.  Pain can add to that exhaustion, and really drain your energy levels.  But it needn’t have to. Luckily postnatal massage can help!

Massage can quickly relieve the neck pain that comes from falling asleep in your feeding chair, lower back pain from lifting bub from capsule to pram to change table and back again.  Postnatal Massage can also relieve shoulder pain and tight muscles from burping bub over the shoulder and from that non-stop feeding in the early days.   It can relieve the muscular stress and give you more freedom to cope with the demands of a newborn.

If you’ve already made up your mind and would like to make an appointment, simply access the ONLINE BOOKING calendar via the button at the top of the page to lock in your preferred time.

The immediate postnatal period, for massage and allied health, is considered to be the first 12 months after birth.  Really, once you’ve had a baby you’re forever postnatal.  Your body undergoes an incredible amount of change in this postnatal period, adapting to life with baby on the outside rather than the inside.  Keeping in mind all of this is on the back of 9-ish months of growing your baby during your pregnancy.  Your body has undertaken and incredible journey of change and often needs some support and TLC in the process.

If you would like to continue massage with Catherine beyond that 12 months after birth, you are most welcome to do this.  Simply book a ‘womens remedial massage’ option in the online calendar.

Benefits of Postnatal Massage

  • Ease stiff Neck and Shoulders – trigger point therapy can provide instant pain reduction for the stiff neck and collar muscles that is a normal part of feeding and settling a new baby.
  • Improved Quality of Sleep – massage increases the production of serotonin and melatonin which regulates our sleep rhythms, thus producing positive effects on sleep quality.
  • Relieve Tension Headaches – massage can release the tension in muscles which has contributed tension headaches.  Catherine’s unique mix of Myofascial Release and Trigger Point techniques helps to gently relieve the built up tension.
  • Reduced Stress & Anxiety – between doctor’s appointments, eating plans, settling baby and feeding non-stop, the level of stress and anxiety that a new baby can bring to a home should not be underestimated.  Massage reduces the stress hormone cortisol, and at the same time it increases the feel good hormones that improve mood, immunity, vitality and also decrease pain levels.
